Morecambe is a charming town located in North West England in the county of Lancashire. Situated right on the coast of the Irish Sea, it offers breathtaking views of the sea with stunning sunsets during the summer months. The town initially started as a fishing village, but with the construction of the railways in the 19th century, it evolved into a popular holiday resort attracting visitors from around the country. The town's history dates back to the Roman era, with a well-preserved villa discovered in 1924. Throughout the 19th century, Morecambe continued to grow, developing new attractions to entice tourists, including the Victorian promenade and the iconic Art Deco Midland Hotel. One of the town's most famous residents was the comedian Eric Morecambe, who took his stage name after his hometown, and a statue of him can be seen on the seafront. In addition to its rich history, there is plenty for visitors to enjoy in Morecambe today. The town boasts a plethora of shops, restaurants, and bars, perfect for a relaxing evening out. The bay is also an excellent spot for water sports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, and sailing. For families, the Happy Mount Park offers a play area, miniature golf, and even a splash park. Additionally, the Eric Morecambe statue is not the only artwork on display in the town as the Morecambe Bay murals celebrate the culture and history of the area and are a must-see during a visit.
