Caernarfon is a charming town located in Gwynedd County, North Wales, United Kingdom. Its name is Welsh and comes from "Caer yn Arfon," which means "Fort in Arfon." The town is located on the Menai Strait and is an excellent starting point for exploring the beauty of Snowdonia National Park and its surroundings. One of the main attractions in Caernarfon is its iconic castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Built by Edward I between 1283 and 1289, the castle served as a military stronghold and as a royal palace. Nowadays, visitors can explore the castle’s grounds and walls, as well as climb spiral staircases for breathtaking views from the top of the towers. Moreover, the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, located within the castle, provides an insight into the regiment's history, a must-see for military history enthusiasts. Apart from the castle's historical value, Caernarfon is also home to one of the smallest houses in Britain. Located on the town's quayside, the house is just 3.05 metres tall and 1.8 metres wide. It was built in the 16th century for a fisherman and was occupied until 1900. The house is now a popular attraction for visitors, who enjoy taking pictures with its unique size. Lastly, Caernarfon is also famous for its hosting role of the Royal National Eisteddfod, Wales' largest cultural festival, which is held every August. During the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of music, drama, literature, poetry, arts and crafts, as well as learn about Welsh culture and language.
