Peniche is a charming seaside city located in central Portugal's Silver Coast, approximately 90 km north of Lisbon. The city has a long and rich history, dating back to Roman times. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Peniche was an important fishing port and a center of the Portuguese fishing industry. Today, it is still a lively fishing town, known for its fresh seafood restaurants and beautiful beaches. One of the most well-known historic attractions in Peniche is the Fort of Peniche, a 16th-century fortress that was used as a political prison during the dictatorship of António de Oliveira Salazar.
