Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, located on the western coast of the Caspian Sea. Historically, the city has been a strategic location for developing trade between East and West and as a result, has been influenced by many cultures. In recent years, Baku has transformed into a modern and thriving city while preserving its rich cultural heritage. The Old City of Baku, also known as the Walled City or Icherisheher, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with historical and architectural landmarks such as the Maiden Tower, Shirvanshahs’ Palace, and the Juma Mosque. Visitors can stroll through the narrow streets of the Old City and experience the unique blend of Iranian, Ottoman, and Russian architecture.
