Cliff Walk

Cliff Walk is a scenic 3.5-mile pathway along Newport's picturesque shoreline, offering a unique combination of panoramic ocean views, awe-inspiring architecture, and boundless natural beauty. It has become one of Newport's top attractions, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The trail passes by the iconic Gilded Age mansions, many of which are now museums or historic landmarks, such as The Breakers and Marble House. As you meander along the path, you will see stunning rocky cliffs, secluded beaches, and vibrant shoreline ecosystems, making it a nature lover's paradise.

The history of Cliff Walk dates back to the 1880s when it started as a simple path for the wealthy residents to access their private beaches. In 1975, it was designated as a National Recreation Trail by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. Over the years, several efforts have been made to preserve and maintain the historic trail, including the extensive restoration works following Hurricane Sandy in 2012. While enjoying the walk, visitors can witness a glimpse of the opulent lifestyle of the bygone era and appreciate the sheer magnificence of Newport's coastal topography.
