This 62-story building stands as one of the tallest buildings in New England, reaching a height of 790 feet (240 meters). Designed by Henry N. Cobb of the firm Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partners, construction of the tower began in 1968 and was completed in 1976. The design was inspired by the geometry of crystal formations, featuring an unusual triangular shape with a tapering silhouette. Visitors to the John Hancock Tower can take in stunning panoramic views of the city from the observation deck on the 60th floor. From there, visitors can see notable landmarks such as Fenway Park, the Charles River, and the Boston Common. The building is also known for its energy-efficient design, which uses a pioneering double-glass curtain wall system that reduces energy costs and minimizes the need for heating and cooling. This design earned the building a LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of certification awarded by the US Green Building Council.
