Zoo Atlanta

Zoo Atlanta, located in Atlanta, is a phenomenal destination for animal lovers. Established in 1889, it is one of the oldest continuously operating zoos in the country. It is home to over 1,500 animals and 200 species, including giant pandas, western lowland gorillas, and Sumatran tigers. In 2011, Zoo Atlanta welcomed its most famous residents, two giant pandas named Yang Yang and Lun Lun. The pair of pandas were brought over from China as part of an international conservation effort to preserve the species. Their arrival marked the first time in 15 years that giant pandas had been housed at the zoo.

Tourists can also witness extraordinary animals like African elephants, zebras, and a variety of big cats. In addition, the zoo offers its visitors up-close encounters with various species in exhibits like “Wild encounters” and “Panda encounters.” Adjacent to the zoo is Grant Park, one of Atlanta's oldest and most historic parks. The park has a large lake, walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. It is home to the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, the largest oil painting in the world, which commemorates the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War. Moreover, the zoo is situated in downtown Atlanta, making it a great location for tourists to explore the city's many other museums, restaurants, and attractions. Visitors can easily walk to nearby attractions like the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
